5A Programs

Boulder HS
Panthers(2054)

Coach: John Whitehead - 4th season

Returning starters: 6

2024 Record: 6-17

2024 Srs playing at the next level: Charlie Margulis - Indian Hills JC

Players to watch: Gavin Nguyen (SR) OF, Daniel Melvin (SR) 1B - committed to St. Olaf College, Maks Matheson (JR) SS, Sam Skubic (SO) C/P, Finn Torvik (SO) 3B/P

2025 Outlook: A strong senior class that played a major role last season has graduated and the Panthers welcome back 6 starters including experienced freshman Sam Skubic and Fin Torvik. S. Skubic anchors a pitching staff that looks to replace two strong arms from 2024 but expect Toby Schoenfeld and Daniel Melvin to fill those shoes. Both saw varsity innings and will play bigger roles in 2025.  Offensively, Gavin Nguyen, Maks Matheson and F. Torvik are coming off seasons where all 3 hit over .300 and anticipate improvement this season. Coach Whitehead recognizes this years team will be younger in some spots but believes leadership from G. Nguyen and D. Melvin will ease the transition. Moving into a new league will be an adjustment but should work in Boulders favor.

Brighton HS
Bulldogs(1856)

Coach: Pat Tabor - 2nd season

Returning starters: 6

2024 Record: 12-13

2024 Srs playing at the next level: Brandon Waltemath - Western Nebraska JC

Players to watch: Ethan Burtke (SR) 1B/RHP, Nick Griffin - (SR) OF/P, Austin Waltemath (SR) P/OF - committed to Colorado State University - Pueblo (CSUP)Jude Bachicha (JR) 2B, Austin Sickler (JR) SS/P, Alex Smotherman (JR) C

2025 Outlook: In their first season under Coach Pat Tabor the Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the playoffs knocking off favored Rock Canyon HS in round one. Brighton will return six starters from that team but will have to overcome the injury of LHP/1B Ethan Burtke. Expect Austin Waltemath and Austin Sickler to play bigger roles with E. Burtke's absence. Both will contribute on the bump and at the plate. A. Waltemath hit over .400 and recorded 40 IP last season while A. Sickler was no slouch batting .310 with 9 SBs as a sophomore. The dark horse is Nick Griffin who will turn heads at the plate, batting .451 in 2025. With the injury of E. Burtke pitching depth could be a question mark unless unproven players step up to fill that role.

Mtn. Range HS
Mustangs (1750)

Coach: Michael Polson

Returning starters: 4

2024 Record: 3-20

2024 Srs playing at the next level: Carter Rohrig - Colorado School of Mines,

Players to watch:  None Committed - Joshua Harris (SR) INF/RHP, Zane Weingartner (SR) P/2B, Noah Espinoza (SO) OF

2025 Outlook: The Mustangs struggles continued in 2024 as they have earned just 7 wins in the past two seasons, and a big part of that was Mtn Range's inability to stop teams from scoring as teams averaged 13 runs per game. The good news for Polson's squad is they return 3 of their 5 top arms so their is plenty of experience and continuity, which should mean improvement. Joshua Harris is a senior and along with Zane Weingartner and Jackson Kalkhorst will eat up most of the teams innings on the mound. Offensively the Mustangs only return 4 starters to a lineup that includes youngster Nick Espinoza, Austin Ramirez and Z. Weingartner. N. Espinoza is coming off a good freshman year and hopes to carry that momentum into 2025.

Northglenn HS
Norsemen (1930)

Coach: Chris Mann - 8th season

Returning starters: 9

2024 Record: 3-20

2024 Srs playing at the next level: None

Players to watch:  None Committed - Alonso Sandoval (SO) C/MIF, Ref Alcantar (JR) RHP, Deynerr Pena (FR) UTIL

2025 Outlook: The Norsemen had their fair share of struggles in 2024 but with 9 starters returning Northglenn anticipates to make a leap forward this season. Offensively they should be strong 1-9 with everyone having at least one year of varsity experience under their belts. Alonso Sandoval put up good offensive numbers as a freshman and expects to improve as a sophomore. Coach Mann is optimistic the team will be competitive but knows pitching depth could be an issue. #1 arm Bryan Acosta will keep the team in every game while 2 way player Ref Alcantar will contribute both on the mound and at the plate. Their are unproven options but what their role will is dependent on how they perform early in the season.

Prairie View HS
Thunderhawks (1806)

Coach: Mark Gonzales - 9th season

Returning starters: 7

2024 Record: 23-6

2024 Srs playing at the next level: Tony DiRienzo - Marshalltown JCJavi Gaeta - Northwestern JC, Brock Lopez - Miles City JC

Players to watch: Favi Gaeta (SR) LHP/1B/OF, Jerry Stone (SR) 1B/RHP, Romani Perez (SR) INF/RHP, Gio Tarin (SR) OF/RHP, Noah Hernandez (SR) 2B, Jael Peralta (SR) OF - committed to York University

2025 Outlook: A veteran squad featuring Favi Gaeta and Jerry Stone broke through with a run to the Final 4 last season and 7 of their 9 starters return including their top arms. With a fantastic run in 2024 the Thunderhawks and fans have high expectations moving into the upcoming season. F. Gaeta and J. Stone recorded 19 wins between them along with being 2 of the teams top bats. Expect both to be outstanding again this season along Romani Perez, Noah Hernandez and Gio Tarin contributing to a lethal offense that hit .338 in a very competitive league. On the mound they could arguably have the top 1-2-3 in the state. F. Gaeta and J. Stone had sub 2.00 ERA's with over a hundred K's each while the teams #3 arm R. Perez's ERA was only 2.05. A team ERA of just 2.47 and they are all back!!

Gonzales's squad has their eyes set on improving on their Final 4 season and making a push for a state championship in 2025.

Riverdale Ridge HS
Ravens(1458)

Coach: Ray Garza - 6th season

Returning starters: 6

2024 Record: 17-7

2024 Srs playing at the next level: Landon McKenzie - Otero JC, Dakota Alber - Western Nebraska JC, Cayden Trujillo - Cerro Cosa JC, Josh Weber - Mid-America Christian University

Players to watch:  Landon Brophy (SR) C/INF, Jaxon Carabajal (SR) P/INF - committed to Monterey Peninsula JCColton Lancaster (SR) C/INF, Tyler Swan (SR) P/INF - committed to Scottsdale JCNick Williams (SR) OF, Dom Guadagnoli (JR) INF/OF, Jayce Sanchez (JR) P/INF/OF

2025 Outlook: Coach Ray Garza enter his 6th season at the helm of Riverdale and once again will field a team that's hungry to compete for a league championship. Senior right-handers Tyler Swan, Jaxon Carabajal and Aiden Carpenter will anchor a pitching staff that also includes Jayce Sanchez. The rotation will be solid but keeping everyone healthy is a priority this year, especially since pitching and defense will be the backbone of the team. 4 of the 5 regular infielders are back with only 1 outfielder retuning from 2024. The biggest question will be who wins the battle at catcher. Landon Brophy, T. Swan, Colton Lancaster, J. Carabajal, newcomers Noah Villarreal, Matt Jayne, Seth Supersynski and Donovan Baldizan will all get an opportunity to be the everyday guy. At the plate, T. Swan returns as the teams top bat with L. Brophy, J. Carabajal and Colton Lancaster also playing important roles in a lineup that batted .345 a year ago but also lost two big bats to graduation.

Westminster HS
Wolves (2015)

Coach: N/A

Returning starters: 7

2024 Record: 10-12

2024 Srs playing at the next level: None

Players to watch:  None Committed - Adrian Moreno (JR) INF, Robert Antencio (JR) P/C/INF, Diego Yanos (JR) OF/P, Luis Mujica (SO) UTIL/P

2025 Outlook: The Wolves return 10 varsity players that look to turn last years struggles into this years success. Adrian Moreno, Robert Atencio and Luis Mujica not only saw extensive playing time as underclassmen but were the teams top 3 bats. All 3 return to an offense that swiped 115 bags and has the ability to cause chaos with their overall team speed. R. Atencio will be penciled in as the teams top pitcher but with the loss of the teams #2 and #3 arms to graduation Diego Yanos and L. Mujica will see an increase in IP on the bump in 2025. Westminster has not made the playoffs since 2014 but with 7 starters retuning, recording the most team wins since 2017 last season and realigning into a more favorable league the Wolves are optimistic about what the 2025 season holds.
